Giving you and your puppy the best start

Whether you’d like individual help at home or you’re ready to start training with your puppy outdoors, I offer puppy training in Andover, Hampshire and Marlborough, Wiltshire.

Life with a new puppy is exciting, rewarding and, at times, a little overwhelming.

There’s a lot to think about in those early weeks, from settling in, toilet training and sleeping through the night to recall, handling, play and learning how to get your puppy’s attention when the rest of the world suddenly becomes much more interesting.

I offer two ways to get started, depending on the support you and your puppy need.

Start at home

Individual support for those important first weeks

If you’re preparing for your puppy to arrive, or they’re already home and you’d like some individual help, my Puppy Home Start service gives us time to concentrate entirely on you and your puppy.

We can look at routines, settling, toilet training, crate training, socialisation, handling and those first important training foundations, as well as any questions or challenges that are specific to your puppy and your home.

Or start outside in Puppy Classes

You don’t need to have a Puppy Home Start before joining my classes.

If your puppy is settled at home and you’re ready to start training together, you can come straight into my outdoor Puppy Classes in Marlborough.

These aren’t formal gundog classes. They’re about developing the practical life skills your puppy will need as they grow, while helping you understand how to train them.

We’ll work on:

• Focus and attention – helping your puppy learn to engage with you around distractions.
• Recall – laying the foundations for a reliable response.
• Settling – helping your puppy learn to relax in different environments.
• Handling – building confidence around grooming, vet visits and everyday care.
• Motivation – understanding what your puppy finds rewarding and how to use it effectively.
• Play – developing engagement and your relationship through structured play.
• Whistle cues – introducing the whistle and building positive associations from an early age.
• Target training – a useful training skill that can be developed in lots of different ways.
• Clicker training – learning how and when to use a clicker to communicate clearly with your puppy.

Most importantly, you’ll start learning how your puppy learns, so you can continue developing their training outside the class.

Support between classes

Puppy Classes include comprehensive training notes and demonstration videos to help you practise at home.

You’ll also have access to a private WhatsApp group for your class, where you can ask questions, share progress and get support between sessions.

Because the important bit isn’t simply what your puppy can do while I’m standing beside you. It’s being able to take the training away and make it work in everyday life.

What happens after Puppy Classes?

Puppy Classes are the beginning rather than the end of your training.

Puppy Graduate

As your puppy grows, we’ll build on those early life skills and start adding more challenge, particularly as adolescence and greater independence begin to make the outside world rather more interesting.

Foundation Gundog

If you’d like to explore gundog training, Foundation is where we begin developing more specific gundog skills.

We’ll establish your foundations in an outdoor environment and introduce skills including heelwork, steadiness, retrieving, hunting, whistle work and placeboards.

Ongoing Gundog Training

From there, training becomes increasingly individual. You might simply enjoy developing your dog’s abilities, or you may eventually want to work towards assessments, working tests or working your dog.

How far you take it is entirely up to you.
